AFSPA's revocation will be a blow to separatists: Omar

Omar Abdullah
Srinagar, Nov 14: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act would deal a blow to the separatists who use the law to demonize the country and want it to continue.

"They (separatists) want AFSPA to continue so that they can use it to demonize the country. Removal will be a blow to them," he said on micro-blogging site Twitter. He was replying to a question from a user on why the separatists were not supporting the Chief Minister on AFSPA.

The hardline Hurriyat Conference, in a statement on Saturday, warned of an "uprising" once the law, which provides impunity to security forces while conducting operations and allows them to use deadly force, is revoked.
