Bhanwari Devi keeps haunting Maderna; CBI lines up evidence

Jaipur, Nov 12: With the CBI trying hard to crack the mysterious case on the disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi, the agency is gathering evidence to nail one of the accused in the case, former Water Resources Minister Mahipal Maderna. In the second day of questioning, Maderna was called in along with his wife Leela Maderna.

With the CBI filing the status report which is believed to have crucial evidence on those behind the alleged kidnap and murder of the nurse, fingers are pointing increasingly towards Congress MLA Malkhan Singh who was also questioned in the case. It is rumoured that Malkhan Singh introduced Bhanwari to Maderna.

The CBI is also not ruling out political rivalry in the case with Bhawari Devi being used as a pawn to settle political points. Malkhan Singh's sister Indra was also called in for questioning on Friday. Indra had earlier alleged that Bhanwari wanted a "settlement of the deal" with Maderna which might have landed her in trouble.

Another key suspect in the case, Shahabuddin is also under the radar with the CBI wanting to conduct a narco-analysis test on him. He has not agreed to the same as yet, since his consent is mandatory under a Supreme Court order.

A CD which was recovered by the CBI that shows the sexual encounters of Maderna with Bhanwari has been sent to the central forensic lab for analysis.

The Opposition and other women's groups have demanded the resignation of Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot on moral grounds after certain local channels in Rajasthan aired the explicit video leading to further embarrassment to the ruling govt.
