Mum: Alcoholic call centre worker sets pregnant wife on fire

Mumbai, Nov 10: There is no respite for women in the world. Another woman became the victim of her drunkard husband's rage. The accused, who is a Call Centre worker in Mumbai allegedly set his wife on fire over suspicion of some illicit love affairs.

The victim, who suffered 90 percent burn injuries, is eight months pregnant and currently has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai. According to a source, the victim's condition is very critical.

It has been reported that 35-year-old Sunil, who married 26-year-old Sadhna Sonawane two years back, was an alcoholic and used to have altercation everyday with his wife.

The married couple reportedly quarrelled as the accused husband started vesting money on alcohol, nights out in pubs and discotheques, and illicit affairs.

Sunil, who works as a peon at the Mald based call centre, doubted his wife who was forced to work as a domestic help as Sunil stopped contributing money for the expenses of their household.

Police officials, while detailing the incident, said, "On Tuesday night, Sunil came home drunk, and picked a fight with Sadhna over a trivial issue. In a fit of rage, he poured kerosene over Sadhna and set her on fire. Seeing his wife engulfed by flames, Sunil panicked, and began to run. Sadhna followed him for a short distance, but then collapsed."
