Kudankulam Nuclear Plant is safe: Kalam

Chennai, Nov 6: Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam on Sunday (today) visited the upcoming Kudankulam nuclear palnt, has said he is fully satisfied with the safty aspects the plant.

"Kudankulam plant has 3G safety aspects , I am fully satisfied," Ex-president said.

India's missile man visit to the project comes to days after Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Srikumar Banerjee and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Chairman S K Jain had met Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi and participated in a discussion ways to allay the feras of villagers.

Meanwhile, central government had already form a 15 member expert committee to clear the misconceptions about the upcoming project and committee has asked to submit a clear report with consulting local people covering all aspects of the issue.

Earlier, the villagers at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu have organized several hunger protest in their demand to close down nuclear power plant as it will create displacement and loss of livelihood in that area.

The centre has already rejected to stop the work of the plant citing plant is designed to generate more nuclear power than anywhere else in the world and will solve Tamil Nadu's shortage of power problem. The first two reactors at the plant was orginally scheduled to start functioning alter this month but after protest launched by villagers it was stopped.
