Singer Bhupen Hazarika dies aged 85

Mumbai, Nov 5: Legendary singer and pride of India Bhupen Hazarika has passed away following prolonged illness. He has been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since the past few days. He was 85.

He was admitted to Mumbai's Kokilaben hospital in suburban Andheri on Jun 30 after complaining of difficulty in breathing. He breathed his last following multi-organ failure and died at around 4:30pm on Saturday.

Hazarika is a noted poet, music composer, singer, actor, journalist, author and filmmaker of high repute and has been decorated with several prestigious awards including Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Bhushan, Sangeet-Natak Academy Ratna award and the ''Assam Ratna'' award by the Assam government for his contribution towards building bridges of unity and culture not only in the north east region but across the country.
