Anna breaks silence; clamour for Lokpal gets louder
He had arrived from his village, Ralegan Siddhi on Thursday. Breaking his silence, Anna commented, "My 'maun vrat' was not against any party or class. After my fast at the Ramlila Maidan, my health had gone bad, I lost weight. People were flowing in to meet me, so I had to go on a 'maun vrat'. Mahatma Gandhi had done it many times, in such situations."
With renewed energy and vigour to fight for an effective Lokpal Bill, Anna is expected to attend the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Lokpal Bill on Friday. Team Anna had earlier attended the panel on Thursday and expressed their views on the amendments they hoped to see in the proposed Bill.
Anna Hazare's personal physician had advised against the continuing of the maun vrat citing the high blood pressure and other health issues. The vow of silence was kicked off from Oct 16 and he was largely communicating with his aides through hand-written notes and through his blog.
