Boy raped, orphanage notices after girl's 5-mnth pregnancy

Rape
Mumbai, Nov 3: Orphans are not safe not even in orphanages where they are given shelter. A 13-year-old boy raped a girl of the same age and no one in the orphanage noticed the crime until the victim became 5-month pregnant.

The shocking incident took place at Vidyabati Ashram in Kamshet, a place 110 km from Mumbai in Maharashtra. When the incident came to the spotlight, all concerned people in the orphanage reportedly started blame-game inside the organisation.

However, the accused boy along with other seven teenagers have been transferred to a remand home. Police officials suspect that the incident happened and went unnoticed as the superintendent allegedly did not visit the orphanage regularly.

"We have also registered a case against the superintendent for negligence, considering that children were in his legal custody," a police official said while informing about their investigation and work.

Orphanage authorities, however, informed, "The matter came to light on October 22. We have suspended superintendent Basavraj S Chinnamwar and a lady caretaker. We have also issued orders to transfer the boys elsewhere, which are in process."
