Television actor sentenced to five years imprisonment

Chennai, Nov 1: A Tamil television actor has been sentenced to five year rigorous imprisonment and have been slapped with a fine of Rs 10, 500 by a Mahila court.

Devanand, the actor has been charged for abetting suicide of an actress in 2006.

The actor who was already married harassed the victim Vaishnav to marry him. She however turned down his offer.

The actress was found hanging in her house on Apr 17, 2006.

Devanand has been charged under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 306 (abetment of suicide).
