Mining Czars Reddy seeks 'special class prisoner status'

Hyderabad, Nov 1: Former Karnataka minister and mining baron Janardhan Reddy and B V Srinivas Reddy, Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) Managing Director moved the special court seeking 'special class prisoner status'.

The duo were arrested in connection with the illegal mining scam from Bellary by the CBI and are currently lodged at the Chanchalguda central prison, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

The filed petition sought direction to the jail authorities to allow them to avail special class facilities.

"An application seeking special class prisoner status has been filed in the court today as our clients being an MLC and former minister are tax payers," a senior counsel of the Reddys said.

According to sources, if the court accepts the petition, the Reddys will be allowed to have a separate, accomodation, toilet, foof and other facilities.

Meanwhile, the court hearing on the case will come up on Nov 2.
