Snowstorm brings blackout, kills five people in US

South Windsor (US), Oct 31: Millions of people are facing blackout due to heavy snowstorm, which killed five people in north eastern New England states.

However, states of emergency were declared in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut and parts of New York. The condition is worsened as the storm moved North. Western Massachusetts was mostly affected.

Snowfall exceeded 27 inches in Plainfield and 26 inches in nearby Windsor. In this unseasonable storm, the snow fell on the trees which put tremendous weight on the branches. Ultimately the branches broke down and led to power shutdown.

Governor Dannel P Malloy declared that the state can bear the darkness for only one week.

"I'm going to put another blanket on. What else can I do? At least I'll save a few bucks on my electric bill," said Malloy.
