Ex-Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda beaten up in jail, hospitalised

Madhu Koda
Ranchi, Oct 31: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Madhu Koda, who was sent to jail over Rs 4,000 crore money laundering scam, has been beaten up inside the prison.

According to sources, Koda was assaulted by his fellow prisoners. The former CM was taken to a hospital as he sustained minor injuries. Koda got injuries when police tried to disperse other prisoners who showed their rage on Koda.

An official of Birsa Munda central jail informed, "Restriction was put over the visitors' numbers but Koda wanted more visitors. When jail officials denied permission, Koda and his supporters went to the general ward of the jail to meet people."

The official also added, "Police had to resort to baton-charge to disperse the prisoners and Koda was inured." However, some conflicting versions popped up over the reason behind Koda's current situation.

The former Jharkhand CM claimed that he along with other prisoners were on hunger strike protesting "bad quality of food" in jail. It has been reported that Koda was beaten up over the protest. Meanwhile, Koda accused police of beating them while he went to check "quality of food".

Koda, describing the reason behind his situation, said, "When I went to check the quality of food, I was attacked by jail staff."

However, another police official claimed "The inmates of upper division ward insisted that he take meal with others and when he had gone there, a couple of prisoners beat him up."
