Seized black money distributed to people in AP?

Hyderabad, Oct 28: There was a stampede of sorts outside various post offices in Kakinada town of Andhra Pradesh after rumours spread that the government intends to deposit seized black money into saving accounts of people. The apparent mischief by some rumour-monger led to a stampede with people queuing up to open savings accounts.

The police had a hard time controlling the huge number of people gathered outside the three post offices in the coastal town in East Godavari district. The postal officials were also flustered with the demand for opening of a savings account by hundreds of people. The officials were seen convincing the people that the news was just a rumour but the people were insistent that the account be opened.

In a few hours, close to 1000 accounts were opened with applicants paying Rs 50 each to do so. One applicant was quoted as saying to a TV channel, "I heard that money seized in the Gali Janardhana Reddy (mining baron and former Karnataka minister) and Jagan (YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy) cases and the money belonging to the Sathya Sai trust will be deposited in the accounts in the post offices."

Locals in the area revealed that similar rumours have been doing the rounds since the last four days that said that money seized from mining baron Janardhana Reddy, illegal wealth of Kadapa MLA YS Jaganmohan Reddy and the cash-rich Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust will be distributed among people through post offices.

On hearing the news, people rushed to the nearby post offices immediately. Police tried hard to convince people that the news was a rumour and they are trying to find those behind spreading of the rumour.
