US fears terror attacks on Ind; issues travel alert

Washington, Oct 19: With India ushering in the holiday season, especially Diwali, the United States of America has issued a travel advisory that warns its citizens of possible terror attacks in India this season. A statement given out by the US State Department said, "Recent Indian government advisories and local media report increased indications that terrorists are planning attacks in India."

The statement further stated, "US citizens travelling or residing in India are always urged to maintain a heightened situational awareness and a low profile, monitor local news reports, consider the level of security present when visiting public places, and take appropriate steps to bolster their personal security."

The alert said that public places such as markets, trains, buses, religious sites, hotels and restaurants were potential targets.

The alert expires on Jan 20, 2012.
