Manmohan is an intelligent man but very mild: Bal Thackeray

Mumbai, Oct 18: Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray on Tuesday (Today), commented that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is an intelligent man but 'very mild'. He appreciated the late prime minister Indira Gandhi as a woman with guts who 'had the capacity to rule'.

Pointing towards Manmohan Singh's mild nature, Thackeray said he doesn't know if PM has become mild owing to the pressure of working under Sonia Gandhi adding that he works quietly.

The Shiv Sena Chief praised late prime minister Indira Gandhi by saying she was a woman who 'had guts'. "That is not merely because she was from the Gandhi family. But, when she won the Bangladesh war, even A.B. Vajpayee had hailed her as an avatar of Goddess Durga," Thackeray added. Giving high compliments to Indira Gandhi's governing ability, Thackeray said that 'she had the capacity to rule, she actually ruled'. Admitting his differences of opinion with Indira Gandhi, Thackeray mainly blamed late prime minister for the decision to impose Emergency in 1975.

Thackeray also commented against the Gandhi family and said Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi would marry a Christian girl just like his sister Priyanka. "Ever since Sonia (Gandhi) has come, she has converted the Gandhi family into Christians!," he chided.
