California governor declares Oct. 16 as "Steve Jobs Day"

Los Angeles, Oct 16: California governor Jerry Brown has declared Oct. 16 as 'Steve Jobs Day" in the Apple co-founder home state of California as Apple holds a memorial service for its late founder.

Jobs was a "uniquely Californian visionary. He epitomized the spirit of a state that an eager world watches to see what will come next," Brown said in his proclamation.

Apple has invited some of silicon valley's renowned people and others close to Jobs to attend the memorial event. Apple said that Oct 16 event will be a private event. The memorial event will be held at Standford University's Campus on Sunday (Today) evening.

Meanwhile, Apple is planning to organise an event for Apple employees to celebrates steve life at its headquarters in Cupertino, California on Oct. 19.

The genius died in on October 5 at the age of 56 following a long battle with Pancreatic cancer. He was buried in a private ceremony at a non-denominational cemetery three days later.
