Anger over BU VC's open letter to Narayana Murthy

Narayana Murthy
Bangalore, Oct 14: A controversy has broken out over an open letter written by Bangalore University (BU) Vice Chancellor, Dr N Prabhu Dev to Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy.

Narayana Murthy was approached by the Vice Chancellor (VC) to take on the Chairmanship of Board of Governors of University Visvesveraya College of Engineering (UVCE), so that college could change into an institution of excellence under his guidance.

Criticising the way the Vice Chancellor approached the Infosys founder, a senior professor from UCVE said that the VC took the opportunity after Narayana Murthy's comments on the quality of IIT students.

Opining that Murthy should have been sent a personal invitation, the professor questioned the VC's approach asking, "Is V-C expecting Narayana Murthy to read his open letter through media and stand in front of him the next day?"

The University has been sanctioned Rs 22.5 crore for a World Bank aided project. BU has also been directed to appoint an outsider for the chairman of board of governors.

However, UVCE Principal K R Venugopal said that he was happy about the invitation and was looking to work under the Infosys founder.

“Under his chairmanship, UVCE will progress," said Venugopal.
