Coal shortage leads to power crisis in cities
Coal India is supplying less coal to the power plants. The cabinet has allowed the Public Sector Units and NTPC to import coal, so that the country can get rid of shortage. Rainfall is the major cause of shortage.
Sriprakash Jaiswal, Coal Minister was quoted as saying, "We had a meeting regarding the shortfall of the coal and the target that we have set for our production. There has been some shortfall because of heavy rainfall in mining areas, if NTPC asks for more coal we will provide them because it's a government company and provides power to the nation."
The power plants including Indraprastha in Delhi, Panipat plant in Haryana and Dadri in Uttar Pradesh have been affected due to the rainfall.
