Ajmal Kasab
New Delhi, Oct 10: Monday (Oct 10) will see 26/11 convict Ajmal Kasab once again appealing before the Supreme Court challenging his death sentence. The sole terrorist who was captured in the deadly Mumbai terror attacks, Kasab is charged under various counts including criminal conspiracy, waging war against the nation and murder.

The case will be heard by a justice bench comprising Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai. Kasab had earlier filed a petition challenging the death sentence awarded to him. The case was taken up by the government appointed senior advocate Raju Ramachandaran who is the amicus curie in the case.

The Bombay High Court had earlier upheld the trial court order that awarded the death sentence to Kasab and called it a 'brutal and diabolical' attack aimed at 'destabilising' the government. Apart from the charges mentioned, he was also given the extreme sentence under various IPC sections related to murder and under sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The High Court had upheld the sentence on 19 counts under IPC, Arms Act, Explosives Act, Explosive Substances Act, Foreigners Act, Passport Act and Railway Act.

Kasab was first convicted in the Mumbai terror attack case on May 6, 2010. Video images of the attacks show Kasab opening fire at civilians and the police force. The incident led to the death of 166 people and left many others wounded.
