Relief for DMK, CBI not to oppose Kanimozhi's bail
Kanimozhi's bail plea is scheduled to be heard on Oct 17. Her lawyers stated that the jailed daughter of DMK supremo Karunanidhi is a woman and hence needs to tend to her young son and she be released.
Kanimozhi was arrested after her name figured in the 2G scam, allegedly masterminded by the then telecom minister, A Raja. Kanimozhi along with Sharad Kumar, managing director of Kalaignar TV Pvt Ltd has been accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 200 crore.
Kanimozhi however denied all the allegations adding that though she was the Director of the firm, she was in no way involved in the financial transactions.
The arrest of Kanimozhi has only soured the relationship between the DMK and Congress.
A case against Dayanidhi Maran, grand nephew of Karunanidhi has been filed by the CBI against criminal conspiracy for allegedly misusing the office during his tenure as the Telecom Minister from 2004-2007 before A Raja replaced him.
