Karnataka begins its search for new Lokayukta
The process to select a new Lokayukta started three weeks after Shivraj V Patil, the Lokayukta after Justice Santosh Hegde quit as amid controversy's that he violated norms in acquiring two plots in Bangalore.
The Lokayukta is selected after the chief minister consults the high court chief justice, speaker of the assembly, chairman of the council and leaders of the opposition in both the houses.
As per rule, only former chief justices or judges of the supreme court can be appointed as Lokayukta for which the serving time is five years. The Chief Minister last week said that he would not want to rush the matter of selecting a successor to Patil as it was a sensitive matter.
