Goa MLA demands CBI probe in illegal mining

"I am personally ready for a CBI inquiry into the allegations of illegal mining in Goa," Salgaoncar, who represents Sanvordem constituency in the Assembly, told the House today during Zero Hour.
The legislator is the promoter of Salgaoncar Mining Industry (SMI), which figures in the report on illegal mining in neighbouring Karnataka. A Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report has pegged the scam in Goa at Rs 4,000 crore.
While he was making the statement, Congress legislator Dayanand Narvekar intervened and sought to know the grounds on which he was seeking a CBI probe. Salgaoncar replied that the mining industry in Goa had received a lot of bad publicity due to the illegal trade.
