Modi-accuser Sanjeev Bhatt's bail hearing today
Bhatt was arrested on Sept 30 for allegedly forcing his fellow-cop to file a fake affidavit against CM Modi, where he stated that police were asked to go easy on rioting Hindus in Gujarat in 2002.
Following Bhatt's arrest, his wife claimed that the former IPS official and his family's life was under threat. Reacting to this, Home Minister P Chidambaram intervened and asked Gujarat government to assure proper security for Bhatt and his family members.
Bhatt earlier on Tuesday, Oct 4 refused to go in police custody for few hours as suggested by a local court. The court asked Bhatt to accept police remand for few hours before hearing his bail plea. However, defiant Bhatt, who stood strong in his stance, refused to accept remand saying that 'it was a battle of principles'.
Bhatt was later sent to judicial custody at the Sabarmati jail after a local court dismissed the police's remand extension.
