Delhi HC okays EC probe against ex-Mah CM Ashok Chavan

Ashok Chavan
New Delhi, Oct 1: Further trouble seem to be on the way for former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. The Delhi High Court has given the go-ahead to the Election Commission (EC) to probe into the mammoth poll expenditure he incurred during the 2009 assembly election.

Chavan had filed a petition challenging an EC notice earlier following accusations by BJP leaders after he cited his poll expenditure as Rs 11,000 during the elections. The EC had filed a notice against him on this regard. The BJP had also alleged that Chavan had spent large sums of money to various media houses, especially newspapers for a positive coverage of Chavan during the election.

The court after taking cognizance quashed the petitions of both Chavan and former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda.
