Scarcity-like situation declared in 999 Maharashtra villages
At a press conference after the weekly cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said despite good rainfall, a visual survey'' showed that 999 villages in 16 talukas of Pune and Nashik divisions had crop yield of less than 50 per cent.
Fodder camps would be started in these places on a priority basis, 50 per cent subsidy for purchase of fodder would be given, Employment Guarantee Schemes will be started and water supply schemes would be extended to Oct 31, he said.
The villages where scarcity like situation has been declared are spread across Pune, Sangli, Satara, Nashik, Ahmednagar and Dhule districts.
Chavan said visual survey assessment of other divisions will be available by Sept 30.
