Three Indian American scientists shine in US

Washington, Sept 28: Three Indian American scientists will be conferred the country's top awards in the field of scientific research and innovation. The names were figured among 12 top scientists and innovators in the United States, which has been announced by US President Barack Obama on Sept 27.

The Indian Americans are Srinivasa S.R. Vardhan from New York University, who has been selected for the National Medal of Science while the two alumni of Indian Institute of Technology Rakesh Agarwal from Purdue University and B Jayant Baliga from North Carolina State Univerity have been selected for the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

"Each of these extraordinary scientists, engineers, and inventors is guided by a passion for innovation, a fearlessness even as they explore the very frontiers of human knowledge, and a desire to make the world a better place," Obama said in a statement.

The awards will be conferred to recipients at a White House ceremony later this year.
