TN Corporation polls: Expenses fixed for mayoral candidates

Madurai, Sept 28: The election expenses for the candidates who have applied for the position of Madurai Corporation Mayor can go up to a limit of Rs 5,62,500. And the expenses of the candidates who are contesting for the post of councillor has been limited to Rs 33,750.

Corporation Commissioner S Natarajan explained the mayoral candidates expenditure and gave them registers to maintain the daily expenses. The candidates' expenditure should also be acknowledged with the Commissioner.

Corporation commissioner received two hundred nominations for the post of councillors where six candidates filed for the position of Mayor.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate P Packianathan and its dummy candidate SS Ghouse Basha and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam candidate K. Kaviyarasu was accompanied by two party MLAs, R Sundarajan (Madurai Central) and AKT Raja (Tirupparankundram) who filed the nomination for the position of Mayor.

Election Commissioner considered Bharathi Kannamma, a transgender as a male candidate who filed the nomination for the position.

On behalf of Tamil Maanila Shiva Sena, K Jaya filed her nomination and M Sikkander Basha filed on behalf of All India Trinamool Congress.
