CBI to nail Dayanidhi Maran soon; FIR to be issued

New Delhi, Sept 28: There seem to be more trouble for former Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran who is most likely to be slapped with an FIR over his alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam. The CBI who is probing the scam has stated in the Supreme Court that it will file a formal case against Maran. He is in the eye of the storm following his role in the scam when he was the then Telecom Minister.

Maran was in a legal tangle after it was alleged that he had pressurized former Aircel owner C Sivasankaran to sell his company to a Malaysia-based industrialist who had invested heavily in Maran's family business. The forced selling was made to T Ananda Krishnan who is believed to be extremely close to Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi Maran of the Sun Networks. It was also reported that Krishnan invested large amounts of money on Sun Networks after acquiring Aircel.

The expose was made by Sivsankaran who alleged that he was not given key licenses unless he conceded to Maran's pressure on selling his stake in Aircel. He had also claimed that Maran withheld sanctioning him licenses until he sold his company to Ananda Krishnan in 2005.

Maran was succedded by A Raja as Telecom Minister who is currently in Tihar Jail for selling 2G spectrum licenses at throwaway prices and to companies that did not meet requirements.
