Karunanidhi seeks Kani bail; breathes easy on PC resignation

Chennai, Sept 27: With the UPA having to face the heat of the controversial note that has created rifts within the govt, another person pushing his case is DMK Chief M Karunanidhi who is making the most of the ruckus and seeking his daughter Kanimozhi's bail.

Keeping in mind the bail demand of MP Kanimozhi, it has been reported that Karunanidhi will not support and join the Opposition chorus for P Chidambaram's resignation over the 2G note. The DMK Chief has his focus elsewhere and has been quoted as saying, "We are hoping that Kanimozhi would get bail soon and are making efforts for it."

Karunanidhi also refused to comment on the CBI slapping fresh charges on A Raja and Kanimozhi. He only stated that they were court matters and said that the CBI was taking a 'perceived contradictory stance" in court proceedings. He added that the DMK had always stood by its stand that the 2G spectrum scam should not be politicised.

Taking a safe approach to the controversy that has erupted, he commented strongly on Raja's accusations seeking the calling of PM and Chidamabaram as witnesses in the 2G scam hearing in court. Karunanidhi said, "It was 'wrong" if Raja had categorically made any such charge against Chidambaram."

Karunanidhi added, "I am not the one to use this situation to seek the resignation of a central minister, more so when he is from Tamil Nadu."

With Kanimozhi's bail plea in the doldrums, Karunanidhi said, "The CBI has informed the court that all investigations against Kanimozhi had been completed, and told they have no objection releasing her on bail.. But no media is mentioning this." With the father's determination playing out in this political melee, the DMK chief is single-minded in his effort even if that means burying past hatchets and insults.
