Mayawati, Kalmadi among 750 MPs to buy confiscated arms

The Finance Ministry in Jul 2002 said that confiscated weapons could be sold to any MPs on the grounds if they confirmed in writing that they did not posses or own any weapon.
Mayawati bought an Arminious revolver for Rs. 4,900 in Feb 1991, while Janardan Dwivedi, Congress spokesperson, brought a 0.32 bore S&W revolver for Rs. 1.45 lakh.
Kalmadi who is currently lodged in Tihar jail bought a Webly revolver for Rs 9,150 in 1995.
According to government guidelines, weapons sold to an MP serving their term cannot be sold back again for ten years.
