Congress MP Manish Tewari writes an apology to Anna Hazare

Pune, Sept 21: Manish Tewari, Congress MP wrote a written apology to anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare over his remarks accusing the septuagenarian of indulging in corruption.

Tewari's apology comes after a legal defamation notice was sent by Milind Pawar, Anna Hazare's lawyer based in Pune.

"I do not stand on any prestige or ego, especially when it comes to giving due regard and respect to people elder to me in age. In all sincerity, I reiterate my regrets," said Tewari.

"I do not wish to give legal responses or want this matter to be prolonged. I hope you would treat the matter as closed," he added.

However, Hazare had decided to close the matter, said his lawyer, who slapped a legal notice on the Congress MP under Section 500, IPC.

Tewari accused Anna of being "involved in corruption from top to bottom" before he began his fast against corruption on Aug 16.
