Maha Govt sticks to legal drinking age limit as 25

Maharastra
Mumbai, Sept 21: Maharashtra government on Tuesday decided to stick to the new criteria for legal drinking age limit as 25.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed by Bollywood actor Imran Khan challenging the government decision to make 25 as the legal drinking age.

Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Shivajirao Moghe has been quoted as saying, "The government's reply will be filed in the court. We are working on the reply to be submitted. The state is firm on the criteria of 25 years. The state government is organising a 'prohibition week' to create awareness about the evils of liquor consumption from Oct 2 to Oct 8."

He added that workshops will be held in rural areas and gram sabhas will be requested to organise discussions on the prohibition policy of the government. He also said that the state government is still thinking about a brand ambassador who can carry out the awareness campaign.
