Prohibitory order extended by two months in Kupwara
Srinagar, Sep 20: With fresh inputs suggesting presence of large number of militants on the other side of Line of Control, the administration in Kupwara has extended the prohibitory order in the frontier district for two more months.
"Section 144 of CrPC, which is in force in the district, has been extended for further 60 days from September 17 by the district magistrate," an official spokesman said today.
Since the eruption of militancy in early ''90s, Kupwara has been under prohibitory orders.
"In the event of any exigency, civilians have been asked to carry out lanterns in their hands for establishing their identity during the restrictions," the spokesman added.
The border areas of Kupwara have witnessed fierce gunbattles during the last two months with army foiling dozens of infiltration attempts. The district also witnessed ceasefire violation along the LoC several times during these months.
