Nirupama Rao
New Delhi, Sept 15: India's new ambassador to US, Nirupama Rao urged corporate America to invest in India and to overlook the "short-term challenges" that the country is facing now. Rao also assured business leaders of US that they will not lose their long term bet if they invest in India.

"India is a developing economy and an emerging world power. In years to come India would offer huge commercial opportunities and growth of international businesses," Rao said to top business leaders of US at a reception hosted by US India Business Council (USIBC) on Wednesday night, Sept 14 in Washington.

Rao also stressed leaders to focus on long term relationship between two countries, which will emerge as more positive and progressive.

"Being a developing country there would also be some challenges, mainly of short-term nature," she said.

"I am sure you will decide to invest in India, you will recognize that this is a stable and commercially sustainable story and you would overlook short term challenges that exists. I am not in the business of doing business, but I know my country well enough to say that you will never lose a long term bet on India," Rao said in her first appearance in Washington after taking charge as a India's ambassador to US over a week ago.
