IGNOU to introduce diploma course in child rights

New Delhi, Sept 15: The Indira Gandhi National Open University on Thursday (Today) said that it will introduce a diploma programme on child rights, child protection and juvenile justice.

As IGNOU has contributed immensely to the development of higher education in the nation through the Open and Distane Learning (ODL) mode since its inception. At present the University has been providing 338 programmes of study with more than 3,500 courses with a strength over 30 Lakh students across the country.

'There is a huge demand of trained personnel in dealing with children in need of care and protection and juveniles in conflict with law,' IGNOU vice chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai said. The Course was prepared in view of future job perspective and will offer specialized training in the juvenile justice system and child protection he added.

'It would also be useful for the professionals already working on child related issues to further develop the much needed skills,' he said.

Pillai also said that diploma holders can find jobs opportunities as child protection officer under the Child Protection Scheme of the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12), in NGOs and private child development agencies.
