Six-year-old girl raped and killed

Thane, Sep 14: A six-year-old girl was abducted, raped and then brutally killed near here, police said on Tuesday.

The body of the victim was found dumped in bushes in Ganeshpuri area of the district this morning. Anil Sitaram Jadhav (29), a 'mandap' contractor and the main suspect, has been arrested, they said.

The girl's mother was working with the contractor and they knew each other well for the last two years. Jadhav wanted the woman to separate from her husband and marry him. He considered the girl as a hindrance in the relationship which led him to commit the crime, police said.

Last night Jadhav allegedly abducted the girl from her house, took her to an isolated place and raped her. He later strangled her and dumped the body in the bushes, they said. Jadhav has been booked for rape and murder among other charges, police added.
