Emergency helpline numbers for the TN train accident

Chennai, Sept 14: With the deadly train collision near Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu leading to the death of 10 people and 100 injured, rescue and search operations have been completed by early Wednesday morning. Train services have been severely affected in the Chennai-Katpadi sector.

Updates reveal that the accident could have been the result of a human-error. John Thomas, ADRM, Chennai Division has been quoted as saying, "Most probably the driver has not adhered to the signal and he has come and crashed into the rear of this train."

The kin of the dead have been offered Rs 5 lakh compensation while those of the injured have been offered Rs 1 Lakh compensation.
