The Maharashtra government had raised the drinking age limit for the consumption of alcohol beverages to an age limit of 25. [Read more: Maharashtra: Age limit to consume alcohol raised].
The age for drinking beer was raised to 18 -21 years of age, while hard liquor from 21-25 years of age.
However, consuming wine does not have any age restriction.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had denied that it was an attempt to moral policing and added that the decision was taken by state cabinet to increase the contribution from people's side to control consumption of alcohol.
