Madhur Bhandarkar to face more charges in rape case?

Mumbai, Sept 13: A local court in Mumbai on Sept 19 will decide if additional charges are to be added in the rape case alleged by a model against Bollywood filmmaker, Madhur Bhandarkar.

A complaint against Bhandarkar was lodged in 2004 by model Preeti Jain with the Versova police that he raped her 16 times from 1999-2004 on the grounds that he would cast her in his movies.

The case has also seen many twists and turns over the last seven years. A 'B' summary report was filed by the Versova police in May 2008 and said that there was no proof to back Preeti Jain's allegations. She later filed an application in court requesting further investigation into the matter.

The police again filed a case in 2009 repeating their earlier statements. The report was however rejected by the court, which said that further investigation into the matter would be conducted. Jain's statement was recorded in Dec 2010.

"The court will now decide if sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) can be added to the case," said Sushan Kunjurama, Jain's lawyer.
