After Mamata, now Bihar and Gujarat CMs give PM the snub

PM Manmohan Singh
New Delhi, Sept 10: With the ruling UPA government having to face multiple setbacks in recent times, in terms of the number of scams, and general displeasure on their rule at the Centre, it looks like the states have little regard for the country's Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. In an outright snub, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar chose to skip the National Integration Council meet convened by the PM on Saturday.

This is the second such instance recently, the PM had to face insult when West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee opted out of the official Bangladesh trip expressing displeasure at the Teesta water sharing deal.

Sources have claimed that Modi failed to attend the meet citing the burning of Gujarat Lokayukta issue after the Centre failed to recall the notification issued by the Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal to appoint a Lokayukta for the state. Beniwal wanted to carry out the process in an independent way with Modi and the BJP calling the move unconstitutional. Modi also showed his irk when he claimed that he was not consulted before doing so.

The Parliament proceedings wer also affected when the Opposition and other parties created a ruckus on the Gujarat Lokayukta issue.

The Bihar CM however cited his displeasure over the Communal Violence Bill draft being formulated by the Centre.
