Mumbai, Sep 9: The Indian rupee fell by 17 paise to a one-year low of Rs 46.36 per US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today (Sep 9) as the American currency firmed up against other major rivals overseas.

Dealers attributed the rupee's fall to sustained dollar demand from importers and some banks, despite a firming trend in the domestic equity market.

The rupee had fallen by 3 paise to a one-year low of Rs 46.19/20 against the US currency in the previous session due to dollar demand from importers and some banks.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex was up by 46.26 points, or 0.26 per cent, at 17,211.80 in opening trade today.
