I-T commissioner exposed with Rs 4 crores property

Mumbai, Sep 9: I-T commissioner Daya Shankar, who was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, at his office in Bandra Kurla Complex again comes under trouble. The CBI officials have seized property worth Rs 4 crore from Shankar.

Searches were carried out in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Lucknow, where the high-ranking officer was believed to have invested money in various real estate deals.

Investigations undertaken by ACB officials revealed that Shankar owned property and cash worth a total sum of Rs 4 crore the inventory includes a flat at Sarvodaya Enclave in New Delhi worth Rs 4 lakh, an apartment in Lucknow worth Rs 1 lakh, office property in New Delhi worth Rs 2 lakh, a flat in Patiala worth Rs 4 lakh, a house in Ghaziabad worth Rs 7 lakh, and agricultural land in Uttar Pradesh worth Rs 1 lakh.

"We have Shankar's custody till September 13, and are positive that investigations will yield more property," said Abhin Modak, superintendent of police, CBI (ACB).
