'BJP govt should give consent to CBI to probe illegal mining'

Bangalore, Sept 5: Close on the heels of CBI arresting former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy, state unit Congress leaders today urged the BJP government to give consent to the Central Investigating agency to probe into illegal mining.

"The state government should prosecute those indicted in the Lokayukta report and begin the process of recovery of the losses caused to the state exchequer without loss of time", State unit Congress Spokesman V S Ugrappa and K C Kondaiah, MLC, demanded at a press conference here.

"Ultimately the truth has prevailed.The Congress stand that Reddys are involved in illegal mining has been vindicated following Janardhana Reddy arrest by CBI", Ugrappa said.

Since the illegal mining issue had inter-state and international ramifications, the BJP government should seek a CBI probe into it, he said.
