AIADMK functionary hacked to death in Ramanathapuram

Rameswaram, Sep 5: Tension prevailed in S P Pattinam in Ramanathapuram district after an AIADMK functionary was hacked to death allegedly by a seven-member gang led by a Congress functionary.

Yousuff (40), who was allegedly hacked to death on Sunday, had taken to the notice of the government officials alleged encroachment of about three acres of public land by Nagoorgani, a Congress functionary, police said.

Nagoorgani had quarrelled with Yousuff over the issue frequently, and there was enmity between the two, police said.

Around midnight yesterday, a seven-member gang,led by Nagoorgani, allegedly barged into Yousuff's house and hacked him to death, they said.

One person who had accompanied Nagoorgani during the incident has been arrested, while the other six are absconding, police said.
