'CBI looking forward to work under Lokpal'

New Delhi, Sep 2: The CBI director, AP Singh is likely to inform the parliamentary committee that it is looking forward to work under the monitoring and supervision of Lokpal on the grounds that it should be allowed to work the way it is presently working.

CBI also said that it wanted no government interference during its working.

"Presently, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is the superintending agency of CBI. We don't have any problems if like CVC, Lokpal supervises our work but our autonomy should be kept intact and our working pattern should not be changed," said a senior CBI official.

CBI further added that it was appointed to look into graft charges against government officials but cyber crimes and criminal cases were later added to it.

"If corruption cases are separated from CBI, then it would only be left with general crimes, which local police can investigate easily. Otherwise, we don't have any problems in reporting to Lokpal," said a top official.

CBI also said that Lokpal can look into their cases and like CVC they too can refer cases.

"Senior officials can consult CBI cases with Lokpal at regular intervals and Lokpal can then take a view whether fair investigations are being done or not," added the official.
