Heavy Rainfall
Mumbai, Aug 29: Mumbaikars had to face a harrowing weekend due to constant rain that led to the disruption of public's daily routine. The continuous showers not only hit the railways, roads and air, but also caused landslides that killed two in Thane and injured two others in Mumbai.

Flooding and waterlogging on the railway tracks hit the railway services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus-Thane and beyond Karjat (Raigad). The Harbor Line service was suspended between VT and Mankhurd and was being operated only between Panvel and Mankhurd.

Traffic on both Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway went out of gear, as also the other main and arterial roads crisscrossing the city. Several subways, including Dahisar, Kandivli, Malad, Jogeshwari, Santacruz, were flooded, hitting road traffic. Similar problems were also reported in nearby suburbs of Thane like Mira Road, Vasai, Nalla-Sopara, Virar, Kalyan, and villages in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.

The heavy rain also affected air services that left back the flight operations, dropping below 450 metres, forcing airport authorities to suspend operations twice on Sunday morning.
