Anna breaks fast; nation erupts in joy, jubiliation on
Anna is seated on the stage with children wearing gandhi topis and carrying the spirit of patriotism alive in their hearts. The venue Ramlila Grounds is abuzz with people, with crowds thronging in to see the new hero, Anna Hazare. An estimated 15,000 people are at the venue to witness the historic moment. Anna is expected to stay at Ramlila for a few hours before heading for his medical check-up.
Ahead of the breaking of fast, vocal civil society member and key player of Team Anna, Arvind Kejriwal delivered a spirited speech thanking all concerned who made the protest a successul endeavour. He commented, "Indians across the world participated. We thank them. It's a historic moment for India. I thank the MPs." He has also called for a victory march at the India Gate on Sunday at 6pm.
Deviating from the earlire plans, Anna Hazare will head straight to Medanta Medicity in Gurgaon. He had earlier planned to visit the Rajghat, but taking into consideration his fragile health conditions, he decided to head to hospital.
Appearing frail and weak, Anna's spirit was very much alive. He appeared on the stage on Sunday morning and he said, "We have won half the battle. It is your victory. I will end my fast with you at 10 am... celebrate what we have won, but please be peaceful."
Anna Hazare had kickstarted his historic fast on Aug 18 at the Ramlila Maidan after being arrested by the Delhi Police ahead of his fast.
