Chargesheet filed against Alagiri in assault case

Cases had been filed against Alagiri and 16 others, including Madurai Deputy Mayor P M Mannan, under various sections of the IPC including sections 147 (rioting), 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), police said.
The Union Minister was allegedly present on April 1 when tehsildar M Kalimuthu, who is the Assistant Returning Officer for Melur Assembly segment in the district, and a videographer, part of a flying squad, were allegedly assaulted by DMK activists when they filmed Alagiri's visit to a temple in Keelavalavu in Melur taluk, police said.
The 100-page charge sheet was today filed before the local judicial magistrate. The case would be taken up for hearing on Saturday, police said.
