BJP warming up to Team Anna for political brownie points?

New Delhi, Aug 23: With the anti-corruption storm kicked off by Team Anna headed by Anna Hazare giving jitters to the government who are trying hard to break the deadlock situation, it is the Opposition that is making the most of the volatile situation. The BJP wants to capitalise on the strong anti-government sentiment and wants to inflict more trouble on the already wounded govt.

With the BJP trying hard to enter the pristine corridors of the Anna Hazare talks, it is believed that the BJP called on Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar and the Indore-based spiritual leader Bhaiyyu Maharaj. This meeting was with the intention of facilitating talks between top BJP leaders and prominent members of Team Anna.

The BJP wants to open a channel of communication between Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi with the BJP top brass. Their only silver lining on offer being their upper hand in the Rajya Sabha in numbers.

Team Anna, however has not warmed up to the idea especially at a time when the logjam between the government and Team Anna is still in a fragile stage and anti-corruption activists do not want to spoil the chances to end the deadlock. The fact that one of the mediators, Bhaiyyu Maharaj is a former youth Congress leader has also not gone down well with Anna group members. Maharaj is also believed to be close to BJP President Nitin Gadkari as well as the Congress leadership in Maharashtra.

Team Anna openly stated to Maharaj during the back-room talks that the opening of a communication channel would dent the credibility of the anti-corruption movement and lead to a trust deficit.

Meanwhile, the BJP is all set to move an adjournment motion under Article 193 on Tuesday.
