Mamata finally decides,West Bengal's new name - Paschimbanga

Kolkata, Aug 19: After all party meet on Friday, Aug 19, the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal - Mamata Banerjee decided that the new name of the state is - Panshimbanga.

Earlier, Partha Chatterjee, Industries Minister was being quoted as saying, "We have seen in all state meets that our turn comes right at the end, we face grave problems. In fact people doze off when our turn comes. So changing a name will be better."

However, the new name - Paschimbanga will bring it to the top list of Indian states in alphabetical order.

CPI(M) leader, Chairman of the party, Biman Bose also earlier had claimed, "This (changing the state's name) was decided by the earlier Left Front governments. So no question of opposing what the new government is thinking."

Some other names, which were suggested for the new name of the state, were - Bengal, Bangla or Banga. However, it seems that Mamata indeed is moving fast to bring "Change" in the state.
