Surapong Towijakchaikul
Bangkok, Aug 18: Thailand's opposition Democrat Party will seek the impeachment of Foreign Minister Surapong Towijakchaikul for allegedly facilitating a Japanese entry visa for convicted ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Democrat legal experts Nipit Intharasombat and Wirat Kalayasiri told the press today the decision was reached after having examined a recent statement of the Japanese government spokesperson and Minister Surapong's meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Thailand.

The Democrat members said the opposition was now gathering the signatures of some 125 MPs, or a quarter of House members, to back its impeachment before the government announced its policy statement to the Thai parliament.

They also said the Democrat Party would file criminal charges against Minister Surapong for his alleged failure to seek the extradition of Thaksin from Japan.
